Olivia Tate is a broken shell of a girl haunted by the tragic events that fill her past. She has closed herself off from the world, each day grasping at something—anything—to live for. Convinced there will never be a way out, she seeks solace in the depths of her medicine cabinet. When she wakes up days later in the hospital she is introduced to Jude, the quiet stranger responsible for saving her life. She never could have guessed then that her mysterious rescuer would end up saving her life a second time, while simultaneously turning her world upside down.

My Thoughts:

Olivia is numb and living a monotonous life. Numb from haunting memories and a lonely existence. After a life threatening trip to the hospital she returns home determined to improve her lifestyle. This time around, though, she’s not alone.

Alicia K. Leppert did a wonderful job writing Emerald City. Olivia’s story is encouraging and enlightening.  Her past is shrouded in darkness but she makes so many changes in her life that push her into the light. It’s an engaging experience, reading and being able to actually understand what goes through Olivia’s mind. There is such a range of emotions throughout Emerald City and it’s impossible not to feel each and every one of them.

Mysterious Jude West makes a place for himself by Olivia’s side and forces her to start feeling again. Their chemistry is believable because it started from nothing and grew throughout the story. All it took was one single event to seal their fates.

Readers of Emerald City will not be disappointed. There is action, romance, and surrealism all wrapped up into one amazingly satisfying novel!

Thank you, Alicia, for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer these questions for Lovey Dovey Books! I’m excited to share your answers with my followers :)

In three words, how would you describe your writing?

Emotional, straight-forward, real (This was by far the hardest question I’ve been asked so far!)

What made you decide to get Emerald City published?

I always knew I wanted to be published. As much as I love to write, a big part of the appeal is the idea of getting my work out there to share with the world. I was a chapter into Emerald City when I sent it to my cousin who works at Cedar Fort (the company who published me). We talked about getting it published from that point on.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I’m a wife and stay-at-home-mom. With all that that implies, I also make time for my hobbies. I love to create things, whether it’s crafting or decorating cakes. I also read a lot, because what kind of writer would I be if I didn’t? :) And I’m a little bit addicted to word games on my phone. It’s work-related, right? Words are my business! On top of that I’m busy with church responsibilities and the occasional GNO with my friends. And when I’m not doing any of the above, I’m doing one of the things I love most in the world: sleeping.

What was your greatest challenge in writing Emerald City?

Oh, so many challenges to choose from. My greatest would have to be getting the story in my head to come across on paper (computer screen?). I had such grand visions of how I wanted it to go, of what I wanted the end result to be, and when the words just weren’t coming or I just couldn’t get the tone of it to feel right, it was beyond frustrating. I don’t know if any writer ever gets it exactly how they want it, but I’m satisfied in feeling that I came as close as I possibly could to the story I wanted to tell.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Thank you for taking a chance on my pretty little book with the super cryptic description, for allowing Jude and Olivia to come alive in your minds. All three of us thank you. :)
