Oxblood's Victoria Asher is the Next Best Heroine! (Review)

How far would you go to save the only family you have left?

Victoria “Vic” Asher is finally finding some balance in her life. Though she’s still reeling from her parents’ death in a plane crash, she’s content with waiting tables at the Clock; window shopping with her best friend, Tiffany; and hanging out with her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Chad. But when she receives a mysterious package in the mail from her brother, Gil—a law student doing research in Italy—she knows immediately that he’s in danger. Vic isn’t about to risk losing her only brother, so she sets off for Italy to find him. But when she runs into Ian, the gorgeous leader of Interpol’s secret Rogue division, who’s also searching for Gil, she quickly realizes that her brother is in much deeper trouble than she ever could have imagined. Vic will stop at nothing to locate Gil, but doing so could cost her her life—and her heart.

Oxblood is the first book in a new series, by Annalisa Grant, and what an explosive beginning! From start to finish it’s filled with quick bursts of emotion, adrenaline, and action.

I immensely enjoyed reading Oxblood. I was interested on the theme alone, then sold by Grant’s intriguing storytelling. Victoria Asher and her brother Gil are living a simple life in Miami and healing from the tragic loss of their parents. When Victoria receives a mysterious package in the mail from her brother her life takes an unexpected turn that leads to uncertainty and danger. However, with her introduction to the breathtaking Ian Hale and his secret Rogue team, she finds that the risks may be worth it for her brother, and maybe more.

Well written and balanced, the story flows from scene to scene and allows you to emerge into Victoria’s world while taking in the characters’ motives and the refreshing Italian surroundings. I was pulled into the story and felt as though I were truly an observer of Victoria’s determined actions and personal growth. Victoria takes the cake on determination. Not one to back down, she sticks it out through the bad and the downright miserable. The connections, whether romantic or platonic, were real and not forced, which always heightens the quality of a story. Grant brings readers right up to the edge, then slowly backs away so that by the end of the story you feel complete, but still eager in anticipation of the next installment.

I highly recommend Oxblood to readers who love fast-paced action and mystery. With her spunk and uncanny ability to ‘Sherlock’ her way out of sticky situations, Victoria Asher will soon become everyone’s favorite heroine!
