Daisy Wickens Returns to Ottercombe Bay (Review)

Escape to the Devon coast, with Part One of a brand-new four-part serial from the author of Willow Cottage.

Daisy Wickens has returned to Ottercombe Bay, the picturesque Devon town where her mother died when she was a girl. She plans to leave as soon as her great uncle’s funeral is over, but Great Uncle Reg had other ideas. He’s left Daisy a significant inheritance – an old building in a state of disrepair, which could offer exciting possibilities, but to get it she must stay in Ottercombe Bay for twelve whole months.

With the help of a cast of quirky locals, a few gin cocktails and a black pug with plenty of attitude, Daisy might just turn this into something special. But can she ever hope to be happy among the ghosts of her past?

The hilarious Ottercombe Bay, from Bella Osborne, begins with Daisy Wickens' return for her great uncle's funeral. What she originally thought was just going to be a pit stop for a quick service turns into a few days more as the will is read. Reg has left Daisy an abandoned railway station, but it's hers only if she stays for a whole year.

The conditions set in Reg's will goes against Daisy's life of wandering from place to place. She's traveled all over Europe working various jobs, but has yet to settle in one place. This is Reg's way of helping her out, though to Daisy it's holding her against her will. This is the kind of story I love to read. Daisy isn't all sunshine and roses. She has issues that manifest through her need to travel and Ottercombe Bay holds a past she wants to forget but can't because it's wrapped up in the memories of her late mother. That tells me that there's more to this story than someone trying to improve her life from beyond the grave. There's a history in Ottercombe Bay that holds answers I'm eager to find as the story continues.

Daisy is a magnet for unfortunate events, but as more crazy things happen to her the more I believe that this town's charm will get her straight by the end of her year. This is the story you read when you want a quick pick me up with an engaging plot and cast of characters. Readers will be charmed and entertained by her neighbor's can-do attitude and Reg's clever pug, Bugsy Malone. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Daisy! I can imagine it full of mystery, surprise, and hopefully a little romance.
